Lost.
Mister is ill - 3 days gone with bronchitis and a wretched cough, poor thing. He’s slept precious little and aches all over. Sleeping with him and the dog is an exercise in patient compassion. He coughs, wakes up, rolls over, groans because he aches, the dog is displaced from his snuggle spot amongst Mister’s legs (under the covers), the dog then rolls over and groans because he’s arthritic. So…it goes something like this:
Mister: *hack*
Mister: *wriggle* *moan* *rolls over* *groans* *hack* *cough*
Taz: *smacking noise* *wriggle* *wrigglewriggle* *flop* *groan*
Bless their hearts. That’s about all I can say, because my man, he is sick, and not just with the man-flu. (OK, I admit it. In his words, as well as mine, he feels like ass. In fact, yesterday he was sitting down, looking like he felt just horrid, and I looked over and said “Ass?” He replied “Yeah.”
Now see, for us, that’s funny as heck. An entire conversation in just two words, and nothing more needed to be said. My poor darling. I hate that he feels, well…. like ass.
The Book of Eli turned out nicely. I do enjoy Denzel Washington. The man can act, and he’s handsome, to boot. Why can’t he run for president? Oh, wait.. because he doesn’t have decent political experience, and he’s a good actor? Well heck! Apparently that’s all you need to get elected these days. Bleargh. Whatever. I joined a FB group along with lines of “I hate it when I get up in the m0rning and 0bama is president.” Again with the bleargh.
Argh. I would love to go see Legion, but must save money. Phooey. Will do next week.
Started back on the hand-written journal a few nights ago. (Dear God, I actually just wrote “a few night’s ago” - WTH is wrong with me?) I have always adored writing somewhat like the journal reads in that Bridget Jones movie. Y’know, all “am v. displeased with weight. Hair vile today. Must have this bushy shag snipped soonest.”
No, seriously…I tend to be more real, I suppose. I don’t know why. There’s a much bigger chance of someone finding my actual journal than this site, and no, it’s not because I’m a complete dolt and think all this is OMG private; it’s because Mister couldn’t be arsed to look for it, and that’s not a bad thing. I don’t say anything in either one that I wouldn’t say to him, so…meh.
Taz is snuggled beside me, curled up in a white blanket older than I am. Abigai1’s on her bed, snuggled up in a pink blanket, again, older than I am. What is up with my natty blankets? Ah well, they’re in good shape, and they belong to the dogs.
God, I’ve written about nothing, haven’t I? Blathered on incessantly about essentially random stuff, which I hate to read, but apparently tend to write.
Mom’s out of the hospital - thank you, God. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Please keep her safe.
Dad’s feeling much better - thank you again, God. Thanks so much, because he felt truly wretched for several days, and is only now able to eat with some semblance of normalcy. Poor thing. =(
My aunt’s doing well in rehab. She broke her hip, and I still can’t believe it. Please be with her, Lord. I do love her dearly.
My other grandmother seems to be doing well with her hip replacement. I’m not close to her (and it’s her own doing), but I am glad she’s not in any pain.
Lord, please be with all those folks in Haiti. I know folks say there’s a purpose for everything, but I sure don’t understand what it is for that awful, awful tragedy.
Time for Mister’s cough syrup. (Thank you, codeine!)
Night!
Dragons and Cardinals
Ah, the blissful frenzy of vacation.
We arrived in Atlanta (right outside, actually) yesterday, and enjoyed a quiet, enjoyable night with loved ones. I love the South, with all of its manners, Godawful humidity and moseying madness.
This afternoon, we headed to Atlanta proper to pick up our convention badges. The line stretched around three sides of the Hyatt, and it was delightful to see so many different kinds of people coming together in the common love of Geekdom. I loved it! The line moved forward at a relatively steady clip, and about and hour and a half later, we had our shiny new Dragon*Con badges, Pocket Program and Guidebook.
The best part? The guidebook has an excerpt from the beginning of Swallowing Darkness, the new Laurell K. Hamilton book in her wonderful Merry Gentry series. I. Can’t. Wait! I was practically dancing in my seat on the way home, and kept shushing Mister so I could read in peace. It’s going to be a great book, and I can’t believe I am actually going to meet her! Or see her, whatever! I’m going to be in the same room with Laurell K. Hamilton!
<insert squeal of pure joy>
I could go on and on in the same vein (Vampire pun!) about Rachel Caine and Jackie Kessler, because I’m disgustingly thrilled to be getting to see them, as well. I can’t wait. Have I mentioned that I can’t wait?
Back at the house, I watched the sun set, and walked through dew-laden, freshly cut grass. It was magic. A stone cardinal stood watch over a tiny moat, and all was right with the world.
Rant
To the flaming cow/hyena hybrid who sat 2 rows behind us in the theater tonight, thank you. Thank you for ruining what was an entertaining movie with your horrifically bad laughter, which manages to combine barking and whinnying all at the same time. Thank you for being such a pain in the rear that you had to snort and repeat every. freaking. line that you thought was hysterical (and there were many). Thank you for commenting to yourself, and often. It’s so important to keep in touch with our inner child, isn’t it? Thank you for not calming your banshee screeching even after being asked, very politely I might add, TWICE by the lady sitting behind us. You irritated the bejeezus out of me, and I sincerely hope I am never cursed with your presence in a theater ever, ever again. Lastly, thank you for the incredibly satisfying feeling it gave me when I turned to you and told you to shut UP.
Grrr.
Now for some positive stuff. Balance, dear. Balance.
1. I work with amazing people. I’m very grateful to have a job, and I essentially enjoy the type of work I do. There are management issues, and communication issues, but that will all be settled soon enough. I have a job. Nuff said.
2. I’m going to my parent’s home this lovely three-day weekend, and as an added bonus my grandmother is there to visit, so I’ll be able to spend some nice time with her. We lost PaPaw 2 days before Thanksgiving, and I’m more aware of my limited time with her now more than ever.
3. At the aforementioned parent’s home is their new Yorkie puppy. He’s less than 2 pounds! I can’t wait to meet the little demon (as Mom calls him).
4. No panic attacks, no anxiety, and no reflux-pain-but-feels-like-a-heart-attack pain in over a month. Thank you, R. You’re a great doc, and talking to you did more good than anything.
5. Wonderful, wonderful husband. 11 years, and I love him more, if that’s possible.
6. The pooch is doing great. We’re reducing the cyclosporine and prednisone little by little every 2 months, and she’s just fantastic. I’m amazed at how much better she acts. She was so very sick before. *shudder* I don’t want her to have to go through that ever again. I dont’ know what the future holds, because she was having seizures with the GME, which indicates a brain lesion, but she’s been 100% for over 6 months. 7, actually. Keeping my fingers crossed, and praying. She’s my sweet baby. =)
7. Discovered Bathed & Infused last month. The Rock Goddess scent is the best thing I’ve smelled. I love it! Flirt is a very close second! Their scrub bars rock, too - especially at this price!
8. The new Laurell K. Hamilton book (Blood Noir) comes out in one week. I am Jazzed.
2:45 A.M.
Well, this weekend was fraught with nothing. We saw movies, ate out, and basically did precious little else (unless you count untold hours of C0H/C0V and W0W). My little hunter is coming along nicely. My third hunter, on my third server, and my first H0rde character. I’ve decided I pretty much dislike h0rde. My good friend is playing one, thus I play one too.
We saw Tristan and Isolde Friday night, and Underworld:Evolution tonight (last night). Both were good, and I’d see both again. I can’t be assed to look up actor names atm, but the woman who played Isolde was lovely, James Franco was surprisingly nice as Tristan, and the fellow who played Lord Marke was enticing, yet a little spooky, as he is wont to be, due to the droopy eye.
My parents may be coming down this next weekend. The cleaning frenzy will ensue, and soon. New bedroom furniture!
I’m placing a group Lush order tomorrow. Myself, several friends from work (men and women), friends from past jobs, the jovial server at the Lebanese restaurant my bookclub went to last night, and a friend of a friend who joined us. Yay for splitting shipping costs!
I have an appointment with the chiropractor Monday afternoon. I’d like to start taking yoga with a couple of friends, and would really like this neck crap to be DONE. The neck pain has eased tremendously, but the headaches I’ve had ever since are just plain sucktastic. It’s like a vice is squeezing the back of my skull, and God, how it hurts. The first and only time I’ve had an adjustment, it didn’t hurt, but I thought my head had snapped right off my shoulders. The sinuses were insta-cleared, and I could smell China from here, but I was scared to move for a moment. Hah!
Argh.
There are a lot of movies coming out in the next year or so. Some of the lesser-known ones we’re looking forward to are: A Scanner Darkly, Silent Hill, Catch and Release, X-Men 3, The Omen, Eragon (with John Malkovich!), Click, Ghost Rider, Lady in the Water, Stranger Than Fiction, Mongol (early life of Genghis Khan), Resident Evil III (Afterlife) and IV, Spiderman 3, Shrek 3 (J.Timberlake joins), Beowulf (screenplay by Neil Gaiman, cast includes Angelina Jolie, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robin Wright Penn and Crispin Glover), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Halo (WETA to create creatures, miniatures and effects).
There are about a thousand other movies, but these are a few of the one we’ll be seeing.
On a rather girly note - I am loving my Lush products. In fact, I think I need more.
Heading out. Abigail is giving me ‘the look’. Such a doll!
Memoirs
We went to see a Memoirs of a Geisha matinee today, and it was a lovely movie. I don’t care that there were Chinese actors playing characters in a movie based in and on Japan, for they did a wonderful job. The cinematography was breathtaking, and Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang have the most incredibly expressive eyes. It was a beautiful story which translated into a beautiful movie. The only thing I would have changed would be the part about the handkerchief at the end.
Spoiler - Highlight to reveal ->In the book, she pulled it from her sleeve
and showed it to the chairman. In the movie
she let it go atop a cliff, and it flew away into the wind. <- End of spoiler.
I need to do some serious organizing. We’re getting a new set of bedroom furniture sometime in the next few months, and I want to switch the computer room with the bedroom. I initially switched them because the fan in the then-bedroom squeaks like mad, and neither I nor Mister know anything about fans, be it installing or fixing them, and neither did/do we care all that much. Now, much to my chagrin, I realize that the new stuff needs to go in the now-computer room, and I want to to use this as an opportunity to do a purge of everything and anything I don’t need or love (see question #9).
Rex Smith and Chilean Christmas Cards.
I received a Christmas card today, which is lovely to begin with, but even better, it came from Chile! How nifty is that, I ask? Four came in the mail - One from FL, one from Canada, one from Chile, and one from parts unremembered. Yay for cards!
I am in dire need of party themes for work. I’ll most likely be doing the monthly birthday/anniversary/etc. luncheon for folks in my department. Last year I did several themes that worked out well, but I need fresh material. Relatively simple and cheap - that’s the ticket.
